The Redwood forest near Kyustendil

Reading time: 4 minutes

Without doubt the giant sequoias inspire awe and wonder. My believe so far was something like this: if I want to see these magnificent trees and to explore the feeling to be surrounded by them then I should go to North America. And then I came across an article about the sequoias in Bulgaria. I didn’t wonder for long and hit the road to the forest with sequoias near Kyustedil.

This one supposed to be a story about 7-day hike in Rhodopes, but the rainy weather and other last minute curcumstances lead me away to Rila. Fortunatelly there are many places to visit so it turned out that the 4 days weren’t enough at all 🙂 Read more

Reading time: 6 minutes

I’ve been dreaming for the ridges of the Balkans for long time. And the idea finally riped during one sunny weekend when we decided to go to the Central Balkans mountain.

The Central Balkan National Park is one amazing place which is situated in the heart of Bulgaria and includes the highest peaks of the Balkans. From the slopes you can see the South and the North part of Bulgaria, amazing nature, horses, caws as well as many preserved species, including edelweisses. And to be more correct – the area close to the Kozya stena hut is the only one place in the Balkan mountain where you can see the edelweisses.

My face at the beginning – skeptic about the quality of bridges..

When I hear the name of Tran the first thing that comes to my mind is the Erma river gorge and the ecopath that goes to there. Whereas it turns out that there is one more not so well known ecopath which I found just yesterday – Tran Eco Trail II. Few hours afterwards I already was there 🙂 The ecopath is starting few kilometers from Tran from the village of Bankya.

What is the best way to explore a destination? Of course to see the both – the nature and the history.

It was one of the first sunny and warm spring days when we decided to go there. Vrana Palace is a marvelous combination of history and nature. Though the days of Bulgarian kingdom are gone it is now open for visitors. Back to the 20th century it used to be the main private residence of the royal family of Bulgaria. It was build between 1890 and 1940 by Kind Ferdinand. The complex consists of several buildings and large botanical garden.

It is located just in 11 km from the center of the city.

Thermal water close to Sofia

Reading time: 4 minutes

It is said that most of the cities in Bulgaria back in the first millennium BC had arisen close to the thermal water. It is believed that the Tracian tribes settled around and formed the first villages attracted by the rich with mineral water land.

Bulgaria has more than 500 hot springs and all around Sofia there are mineral water and spa’s. Even in the city close to the regional museum of Sofia you will see a big square with many locals charging their bottles with mineral water free of charge. Pancharevo lake – a quick escape from the city

Reading time: 4 minutes

When going abroad I’m always trying to combine city break with short trip into the nature. If you have chosen to go to Sofia then don’t miss this opportunity. One of the biggest advantage of the city is its location near to many interesting places.

Pancharevo lake is situated in only 12 km from Sofia and it is reachable by public transport. The lake is about 5 km long and 1 km wide. Basically just in 30 minutes you can change the landscape from buildings and crowds to peacefull nature, lake and small countryside houses. Even if you have only few hours free you can still go there and to see something more than a busy town.
